I feel honored to say that I was invited, once again, to be a speaker/presenter at the Annual Adelante Mujer Conference.
This is an event organized by Sweetwater Union High School District teachers and staff members to motivate young girls from south San Diego to pursue a higher education with a series of workshops presented by local professional women, so they can meet and see actual women who grew up just like them and were able to make it in the real world.
Nothing warms my heart more than to see these young girls and talk to them to show them that I was once in their shoes, literally! I grew up in the same school district, although I never had a chance to attend such an inspiring event. I wish I had! So now, I hope I can inspire at least one of these girls to continue studying and reach for the stars. If I could do it, they can too!
I have participated in this event for the last 4 years, and this year it was held at Rancho Del Rey Middle School. I had to present for three sessions, the third was in Spanish. The name of my session was “So you want to be a News Reporter? / Asi sue quieres ser reportera de noticias?” I basically talked about my background, my education and how I got to where I am today.
Here are some pictures of the event, including a group of girls from my Alma Mater (Southwest High School) I was so excited to see them in one of my sessions! My assistant/facilitator was great because thanks to her I was able to show videos from my laptop with the overhead projector. Enjoy!
